RPO / RESEARCH DISCLAIMER
Research Disclaimer.
What RPO does and does not represent about the research areas described on this site.
Research Disclaimer and Research-Use Terms
1. Read this document
This Disclaimer applies to everyone who uses the RPO website and to every RPO member.
It is a separate document. The Membership Agreement does not incorporate it as contractual terms, and accepting the Membership Agreement is not by itself acceptance of this Disclaimer. Acceptance of this Disclaimer is requested in its own right at application.
If you do not accept this Disclaimer, do not use RPO.
2. What RPO is
Research Purpose Only ("RPO") is an informational and community platform oriented around bona fide research, educational, and institutional purposes.
RPO provides information and a private membership community. That is the whole of what RPO offers.
The membership certification is narrower than this orientation: under Membership Agreement §8(4) a member certifies that they are joining for research purposes only. This section describes what the platform is oriented around, not what a member certifies.
3. What RPO is not
RPO is not:
- a pharmacy or dispensary;
- a medical provider, medical practice, or clinic;
- a veterinary provider or veterinary practice;
- a clinical, diagnostic, or laboratory service;
- a research sponsor, investigator, contract research organization, or institutional review body;
- a supplier, distributor, reseller, importer, or broker of any material.
RPO does not sell, supply, distribute, or provide any material of any kind.
4. No medical advice. No veterinary advice.
Nothing RPO publishes, and nothing exchanged within the RPO community, is:
- medical advice, or a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional;
- veterinary advice, or a substitute for advice from a licensed veterinarian;
- a diagnosis, treatment, cure, mitigation, or prevention of any disease or condition, in a human or an animal;
- a claim that any material is safe, effective, approved, or suitable for any purpose; or
- a recommendation to obtain, possess, handle, or use any material.
No professional relationship is created by using RPO — no doctor and patient, no veterinarian and client, no clinician and subject, no pharmacist and customer.
If you have a health concern, consult a qualified healthcare professional. If an animal has a health concern, consult a licensed veterinarian. In an emergency, contact emergency services.
5. No authorization for administration to humans
RPO does not authorize, approve, endorse, encourage, or support the administration of any material to any human being, including yourself, under any circumstance, in connection with RPO.
This is an absolute boundary. It is not a formality and it is not negotiable.
Every Research Purpose Only member gives the required certifications with their application, including that they will not administer any substance to humans or animals in connection with Research Purpose Only. That certification is a continuing requirement of membership for as long as membership continues (Membership Agreement §4, §8).
6. No authorization for administration to animals
RPO does not authorize, approve, endorse, encourage, or support the administration of any material to any animal, whether owned, wild, laboratory, companion, or livestock, in connection with RPO.
RPO does not provide, and must not be used to seek, veterinary direction, supervision, or justification for any such use.
7. No clinical use, and no clinical representation
RPO makes no representation that any material, method, or information is suitable for clinical use, human subject research, patient care, animal care, or any diagnostic or therapeutic application.
RPO does not conduct clinical trials, does not enroll subjects, does not oversee research, and does not act as or replace any institutional review board, ethics committee, or oversight body.
8. A label does not determine legality
A designation such as "research use only", "RUO", "not for human consumption", "for laboratory use", or any similar label, does not:
- determine or alter the legal or regulatory status of any material;
- grant permission to obtain, possess, import, transfer, or use anything;
- exempt anyone from any statute, regulation, licensing requirement, intended-use rule, or institutional obligation; or
- provide a defense to any legal or regulatory consequence.
Labelling is not permission. The legal status of a material and of your conduct depends on applicable law and on the facts — including intended use — not on how something is described, by a seller, by a manufacturer, by RPO, or by you.
9. Your responsibilities
If you conduct research, you alone are responsible for doing so lawfully and appropriately. That includes:
- complying with all applicable federal, state, and local law, including law governing controlled, regulated, prescription, investigational, and unapproved materials, and law governing import, possession, transfer, and disposal;
- obtaining and maintaining every license, registration, authorization, and permission your activity requires;
- complying with the requirements of any institution you are affiliated with, including its ethics, biosafety, animal-care, and institutional review board (IRB) or equivalent requirements, where those apply to your work;
- ensuring that anything you do is within the scope of your own training, qualifications, and authorization; and
- handling, storing, and disposing of materials safely and lawfully, in accordance with the requirements that apply to you and to your setting.
RPO does not assess, confirm, supervise, or take responsibility for any of this. RPO's review of an application means only that RPO looked at what was submitted. It is not a check of your identity, credentials, qualifications, licensure, institutional standing, or compliance, and RPO does not represent any member as checked, qualified, licensed, credentialed, or accredited.
10. Prohibited uses of RPO
You must not use RPO, or anything obtained through RPO:
- to administer, or to plan, arrange, solicit, or obtain assistance in administering, any substance to a human being or an animal;
- to seek or provide medical, veterinary, or clinical advice, diagnosis, dosing direction, or treatment guidance;
- to obtain, offer, advertise, broker, or arrange the supply of any material;
- to further any activity that violates applicable law or any licensing, regulatory, or institutional requirement;
- to represent, expressly or by implication, that RPO has approved, endorsed, supervised, or validated any activity, material, or person; or
- to circumvent, or to help another person circumvent, any legal or regulatory restriction.
RPO will not provide instructions for administering any substance to a human or an animal, and requests for such instructions are a prohibited use of RPO.
11. Consequences
RPO may, at its discretion and without notice where circumstances warrant, reject an application, restrict access, suspend or terminate a membership, and decline to accept a renewal, where RPO reasonably believes that this Disclaimer, the Terms of Use, the Membership Agreement, or applicable law has been or may be breached, or where activity is inconsistent with RPO's research, educational, and institutional purpose.
RPO may take these steps regardless of whether a breach has been established conclusively, and is not required to explain its reasoning in detail.
Termination does not relieve you of responsibility for conduct before it.
12. No warranty and assumption of risk
Information available through RPO is provided for general informational purposes and without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, currency, fitness for a particular purpose, safety, legality, or suitability.
You are responsible for your own decisions and conduct, and for independently assessing the accuracy, legality, and appropriateness of anything you encounter through RPO before acting on it.
13. Relationship to other documents
This Disclaimer, the Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy, the Notice at Collection, the Email Consent Disclosure and the Membership Agreement are separate documents. Each applies on its own terms. None is incorporated into another, and no order of precedence between them is stated.
The Membership Agreement does not incorporate this Disclaimer, and does not subordinate itself to it or override it (Membership Agreement §32.2).
14. Changes and versioning
Each published version of this Disclaimer is stored as an immutable version with a content hash. A change is a new version, never an edit in place. The version in force when you applied or accepted membership remains identifiable from RPO's records.
